After undergoing the vegetable tanning process, bridle leather is hot stuffed with oils and tallows that penetrate the hides, resulting in a smooth, rich cut that is weather-resistant. It has a waxy feel and a lovely sheen. To ensure uniform coloration, the leather is drum-dyed following tanning. This artisanal tanning process sets vegetable leather apart from other types of tannages. Due to the oxidation process, the color of vegetable-tanned leather may get darker over time or develop a brownish tone, especially if exposed to outdoor elements. Thus, some variation in color over time should be expected.

When discussing rough-out leather, we are referring to the rough and unfinished side. This type of leather is great for hiding cuts and scrapes, and it provides a better grip while riding a horse. To refurbish, simply use a wire brush. It is important to note that unless otherwise specified, all leather parts will be slick-out.

When customizing your saddle, first select the amount and pattern of tooling you prefer. You may combine this with border and buck stitch options. Please note that tooling is not available for endurance or English saddles.

For optimal performance, getting the correct stirrup strap and fender length is essential. Our stirrup mechanism features a single adjustable strap that goes over the top of the tree, and is limited in length adjustment. Please measure from your crotch to the ground without shoes to determine the appropriate length. Our stirrups cannot be adjusted beyond the stated lengths, so getting the right length from the start is crucial.
